Khun Myint Tun (BSc Geology)

Chairman of the Pa-O National Federal Council (PNFC). The PNFC, established on December 11, 2021, represents Pa-O communities across southern Shan State, Mon State, Bago Region, Karen State, and the diaspora. Under his leadership, the PNFC has organized armed resistance forces, drafted a military constitution, and structured the Pa-O National Defense Forces into three divisions.

Khun Myint Tun's political career began as a youth leader in the National League for Democracy (NLD). He was elected as a Member of Parliament in the 1990 general election, though the military junta did not honor the results. Following his election, he was imprisoned for over seven years. After his release, he joined the Pa-O National Liberation Organization (PNLO), where he held various leadership roles, including chairman, vice-chairman, secretary, and central committee member.

In his current role with the PNFC, Khun Myint Tun advocates for the establishment of a federal democratic union in Myanmar. He emphasizes the importance of national equality and self-determination for the Pa-O people, aiming for the creation of a Pa-O state within a federal system. He has also criticized the military junta for actions that he believes are intended to sow division among Pa-O communities by arming pro-junta militias.

Khun Myint Tun continues to be a significant figure in Myanmar's pro-democracy movement, working towards inclusive governance and the protection of ethnic minority rights.
